Yarralea Bush Playgroup is an extension of the Yarralea Bush Kinder program and philosophy. It aims to provide opportunities for young children and their parents/carers to engage in regular unstructured all-weather nature play.
Playing in nature provides therapeutic and developmental benefits. Play can be active/calm, sensory, adventurous, exploratory, physical and mindful.
Our playgroup was first set up with support from City of Yarra grant funding, and now continues as a parent facilitated program.
Our Bush Playgroup is free to attend and is held every Thursday 9.30 to 11am during school term. From March to September, the playgroup is held at our Bush Kinder site in Darebin Parklands (Cnr Parklands Ave & Yarana Road, Alphington). From September to December, it moves to Yarralea’s outdoor play area (54 Yarralea St, Alphington). Playgroup will be cancelled in extreme weather i.e. thunderstorms/hail forecast or winds over 40km hr.
All families are welcome to come along for a try - including families who do not have children currently enrolled at Yarralea. After 3 visits, families are simply asked to join Playgroups Victoria (quote playgroup no 117078) if they would like to continue attending.
